European Business Association Georgia

The European Business Association (EBA) is a Member-Driven organisation, registered in Georgia in 2017 with the very clear vision that doing business in Georgia will be the same as doing business in Europe. With a pursuit of their mission that involves facilitating the development of trade and investment between Georgia and Europe, the EBA has become one of the key players in the Georgian business network.

The EBA has more than 100 members, including large companies from different sectors such as banking, audit, insurance, tourism, hospitality, law, agriculture, engineering, manufacturing, medical and more, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises who share European values. The EBA represents the interests of its members in all its actions. It constantly organises round tables, working meetings, and seminars on the most problematic issues that members identify as their main challenges and prepares position papers based on the members' views and considerations.

In addition, EBA advocates for European businesses in Georgia and is reactively as well as proactively involved in all the processes which help to create an open and accessible environment for investment and business development. Furthermore, EBA offers various support to its members based on their needs and expectations, such as business consulting, mediation, and arbitration.

One of the top priorities for the association is youth empowerment. EBA Youth, a new initiative, already brings together member companies of EBA to work on joint initiatives of particular interest to young people, including education, employment, and the environment. EBA Youth has been incorporated into the actions, and, the EBA Youth board will be a key player in the policy-making process associated with EBA PPD activities.

Advocacy

The European Business Association (EBA) in Georgia has been actively involved in promoting economic reforms and facilitating trade and investment between Georgia and Europe. As part of its efforts, the EBA has organised a series of round table discussions on various topics of interest to its members and other stakeholders. (Link)

  • One of the key areas of focus for the EBA has been promoting competition and creating a level playing field for businesses operating in Georgia. To this end, the EBA has organised round table discussions on competition policy, bringing together European and Georgian experts to share their experiences and perspectives on how to create a more competitive business environment.
  • Another important area of focus has been promoting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Georgia. The EBA has organised round table discussions on how to support SMEs, including through access to finance and business development services.
  • Tourism has also been a priority for the EBA, which has organised round table discussions on how to promote Georgia as a tourist destination and how to improve the tourism industry in the country. Mediation and arbitration have also been topics of discussion, as the EBA recognises the importance of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in creating a more predictable and efficient business environment.
  • Insolvency, tax dispute resolution, waste management, logistics and transportation, labor standards, vocational education, and women in business are among the other topics that have been discussed at EBA round tables. These discussions have provided a forum for members to share their experiences and perspectives and to learn from experts in their respective fields.
  • Working closely with the government, member companies, international organisations, and donors, the EBA has played an active role in promoting economic reforms that are relevant to EU-Georgia trade and investment. The EBA has also been involved in the formulation of draft regulations, helping its members to better understand and comply with new requirements.

EU Projects

  • EBA Mediation and Arbitration Center: Its goal is to make Alternative Dispute Resolution usable in this country. The EBA has created a European Standard infrastructure that enables private and legal persons to utilise the benefits and efficiencies of ADR. (Link)
  • European Economic Cooperation Platform: It serves to facilitate a dialogue between representatives of the business sector, including BSOs/Bilateral Chambers/NGOs, IFIs, European diplomatic community and policy makers to develop a favorable social-economic climate and non-discriminatory, transparent business environment, which would be attractive for investment.
