EBOWN Knowledge Sharing: Building Long-Term Value Through Diversified Revenue

October 5, 2026by EBOWN Admin0

Financial sustainability is a key foundation of a strong and resilient European Business Organisation. While membership fees remain an important source of income for many EBOs, changing market conditions, evolving member expectations and different operating environments make it increasingly important for organisations to develop additional and diversified revenue streams.

Against this backdrop, EBOWN organised a knowledge-sharing session on “Building Long-Term Value Through Diversified Revenue” on 5 October 2026, bringing together EBOs for a practical exchange of experiences, approaches and lessons learned.

Opening the discussion, Florian Gottein, EBOWN Vice Chair, emphasised the critical role of peer-to-peer intelligence in driving institutional capacity across the global network, underscoring how cross-regional collaboration translates local operational insights into scalable business models.

Case Benchmarks: Adaptability and Commercial Strategy in Action

Three regional EBOs presented their distinct approaches to revenue optimisation and organisational agility:

  • EBO Cambodia (Value Optimisation & Differentiated Services): Martin Brisson outlined EBO Cambodia’s approach to elevating membership lifetime value. By structuring tiered membership models, securing annual corporate partnerships, and introducing high-value commercial business services, EBO Cambodia successfully expanded its non-dues revenue while sharpening its core value proposition.
  • EBO Mozambique (Institutional Funding & Trade Facilitation): Simone Santi detailed EBO Mozambique’s trajectory as a “chamber of chambers,” operating at the intersection of advocacy, investment facilitation, and institutional diplomacy. The benchmark highlighted the strategic integration of EU project-based funding, demonstrating how institutional grants can directly complement membership income to advance broader trade and investment objectives.
  • EBO Russia (Crisis Management & Organisational Pivot): Tadzio Schilling provided an analysis of EBO Russia’s structural pivot following major market disruptions post-2022. By diversifying into targeted government relations initiatives, expanding signature event portfolios, and maximising existing organisational assets, the chamber established a resilient recovery model built on agility and market responsiveness.

Building Sustainable EBO Models

The experiences shared during the session demonstrated that there is no single revenue model applicable to every EBO. Approaches depend on factors such as the size and maturity of an organisation, its membership base, market conditions, relationships with European institutions, and the services it is best positioned to provide.
Nevertheless, several common themes emerged:

  • Membership value remains central, with clear and visible benefits supporting recruitment, retention and upgrades.
  • Revenue diversification can reduce dependence on a single income source and provide greater organisational resilience.
  • Business services and projects can create additional value when they respond to genuine market and member needs.
  • Strategic partnerships and institutional relationships can open new opportunities for both funding and business engagement.
  • Existing resources and capabilities can often be leveraged more effectively before investing in entirely new activities.
  • Adaptability is essential, particularly when EBOs operate in rapidly changing or challenging environments.

The session reaffirmed a core strength of the EBOWN network: the capacity to harness cross-border intelligence to solve common operational challenges. EBOWN remains committed to advancing peer-led capacity building, equipping European Business Organisations worldwide with the tools, strategies, and network resilience needed to deliver long-term value for European businesses globally.
